gemma’s journey into wellbeing & mental health

My journey into the world of Wellbeing and mental health came as a result of some very difficult personal life experiences, I have been intent on making a difference to the lives of others ever since. Having dedicated the past twenty years to working with young people, their families, schools and large businesses, to support with a variety of complex social, emotional and mental health challenges, I know first hand how crucial it is to find the right person at the right time to offer support and guidance through the many challenges that young people face, at various different points in life.

hhs wellbeing & career become one

My career has afforded me immense opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of the challenges young people face today and the way in which these challenges can negatively impact not only the emotional and mental health of the individual but that of their families too. Sadly all to often these challenges become a barrier which in turn can begin to negatively affect quality of life. I have worn many hats along the way, project managing a provision in central London for looked after children unable to conform in mainstream education, pastoral deputy head at a Special Educational Needs school, head of behaviour and wellbeing at a residential Profound and Multiple Learning Disability College and more recently creating and leading an award winning Wellbeing Team at an independent school. I am very proud of my latest project the ASK technique. This technique is a powerful tool that promotes positive change in 3 simple steps. Using this technique to improve the effectiveness of teams and support corporate and organisational change is very rewarding, getting the best out of people is key for both productivity and the overall wellbeing of staff, I love having the ability to make such a big difference.

My once passion for mental health & wellbeing has become a mission, a mission to provide outstanding care and support to those in need, by providing support that is personally tailored to the needs of each individual which achieves change, enabling each person to reach their full potential in life. Alongside this I am determined to make a difference in a proactive way, by training staff, supporting corporate firms and educating young people and their families to prevent mental health challenges from occurring. Today, mental health is recognised as a critical aspect of overall wellbeing, it’s impact on academic performance, workplace productivity and overall quality of life should never be understated, there is a growing need for a proactive approach to mental health that goes beyond reactive measures and this is where HHS can help.
